Don't worry Danny, you're still The Truth, but our Chicago Bears have finally found the real deal to our quarterbacking dilemna. Welcome to the Windy City Jay Cutler... I'm still trying to grasp my head around the fact that we have a "star" QB, not saying that I was against Kyle Orton (who I believe will do just fine in Denver), but Cutler is clearly the most talented QB the Bears have had in decades (4 of them to be exact). Furthermore, after fielding 22 different QB's since 1990 (that's right...1990 alone folks), it will be nice to see some stability. Of course, it's still way too early to make any calls on whether or not giving away all those picks was the smartest move...but if John Elway feels Denver screwed up royally by letting Cutler go, then the kid has to be something special! Also, here is a very awesome highlight reel of Jay from his past 3 seasons with the Denver Broncos. This video was way cooler a few days ago when it still had the soundtrack to it, but Youtube has gotten extremely lame over the past months, and have started removing licensed music from vids. Therefore, I suggest all Bears fans play a copy of "You Are So Beautiful to Me" as you watch the awesome skill of Jay Cutler! DDDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Bears!

Well I'm glad you feel strongly about this.I'm not so sure I like this deal. I'm happy with Cutler and everything but I was also happy with Orton. Yes Cutler is better and will probably last longer but, I find it hard to believe that the QB spot was our biggest concern. We got more holes in our defense then one of those Green Bay Packer Cheese heads. Also, who the hell is Cutler going to throw to? I might be wrong but I believe Forte, you know the running back, was the leading receiver for the team. I guess the hopes are on Hester learning how to catch a ball. If you watch closely at the highlight film you'll notice that many of the nice passes were accompanied by many nice catches.( I listened to Green Birds and it made it beautiful. THough Green Birds makes most things beautiful) I'm not saying that the Bears blow hard core, but they still blow. I just think that those draft picks, if used wisely, could have really helped. We are suppose to be a defense team but we seem to focus on solving only part of the problem on the offense while the D remains in shambles. Sure I wound harsh on the D but, if our Captain, Mr. Urlacher, would make just one sack this year or more than five in three seasons, I might take back my words.

Sure I wound harsh on the D but, if our Captain, Mr. Urlacher, would make just one sack this year or more than five in three seasons, I might take back my words. ^ Everything you've said above is completely valid. As a matter of fact, they are all the same exact thing I said when we first gut Cutler. He's got nobody real to throw to, and it's a good thing he's mobile, because his front-line protection has no clue as to what's going on in their offensive scheme, nor does it look like it's getting better (although, we did get Orlando Pace the same day we picked up Cutler, a 5-time pro-bowler offensive tackle, and Ohio State alum what what!I guess he was completely overshadowed by Cutler news). But then I started thinking...all this talk about getting Cutler, and having no star receivers = failure.....hugely overrated. Why? Because a great quarterback makes weapons out of what he has, and makes them all look like Jerry Rice. Point in case, my man Tom Brady of the New England Greatriots. Flashback to 2001, and look at the receiver corps. for that team. You might as well have had Larry, Moe, Curly, and "The Real" Jake D out there catching balls. But Tom took those guys, and horrendously average stats, and took them all the way. As a matter of fact, before the days of Randy Moss & Wess Welker, how often did people even know the names of Patriots WR's? The facts come down to this, great teams have a quarterback that can make things happen with or without great receivers. I was (and still am) a big fan of KO, I use to talk about him back when he played for Purdon't. As a matter of fact, this trade may be the best thing for his career. He's teaming up with Coach McDaniels, who fields an offense similar to that of the one he used in Purdue, and can turn no-name QB's into hot commodities (see: Matt Cassel); also, he's got some really good receivers now. I can definitely see KO exploding in Denver, and I'll be rooting for him the whole time. However, there's some gambles in this sport you just have to take. I mean, we fielded Rex Grossman all those years...and that man never proved his worth. Now, we have a 25-year old pro-bowl QB, who was heralded as the second coming of John Elway in Denver, (my all time fav. QB by the way). Unlike Orton or Grossman, Cutler is going to be able to do more than just hand the ball off...he has the skill set to make things happen. With Forte coming into his own, and hopefully some decent WR picks coming out of the draft or free agency, the Bears could be well back on the track to something great. I'm not expecting Super Bowl contingency yet (like some very enthusiastic fans), but I can definitely see us getting into the playoffs this year. In the end, you consider the fact that Cutler was able to become such a prominent force in the AFC (which let's face it, is a better conference than the NFC). I see no reason as to why he shouldn't at least be able to dominate the NFC North, I mean come on...look at our competition. We're already guaranteed 2 wins against the Lions. The Packers often got beat by us when were fielding KO, Orton, and Griese...and Jay statistically is the better QB than all three of them. That leaves the Vikings, and as long as Coach Childress keeps thinking Tavaris Jackson and his inability to know the difference between his WR's and the opposing teams WR's is their future...well...we should clench no problem. Then again, as they say...anything can happen on any given Sunday. Cutler very well could be Rex II, then again...maybe not. Time will tell. I do have to say though, for the first time in a lllllooooonnnnggggggg while...I can't way for the season to get started. If nothing at all, Bears football has become a relevant force again.

Ok that is great and all but what about the D? Like I said, Cutler may be great and make those around him great, but that doesn't mean squat when the team puts point after point on us. Though you gave a good example Mr. Brady but do you really think that will happen with the bears? I'm not so sure. IF anything I learned, the bears never fail to let me down.
I don't know about you but I liked "hand the ball off" Orton. He was much better than "give to ball to the other team" Grossman. You mentioned draft picks.....what draft picks? They just gave them away. Plus they need to focus else where like....the D.
I realize this sounds like i'm not going against you but it is not intended. I just really wanted to bring up "hand the ball off" Orton and "Give the ball to the other team" Grossman. I don't really think this is horrible though I'd probably to see Orton back. Well I doubt we are going to clinch but let's see.

Once again, I agree with everything you said above.
However, I've got to go with statistics on this one. Cutler is 13-1 when his defense is able to hold the opponent to 21 or less points. Why is this relevant? Because we're talking about the Bronco's defense. As much as we complain about the Bears D, those guys look light years ahead of the Broncos defense that was absolutely ripped to shreds in a number of games. I mean come on, look at the losses for the Bears in 08', how many of those victories for the other team totaled over 30? The answer is 3. How many for the Broncos? 5. Which came in some very embarrassing beatdowns:
vs. Patriots: 41-7 vs. Raiders- 31-10 vs. Panthers- 30 - 10 vs. Chiefs- 33 - 19 vs. Chargers- 52 - 21
Okay, look at those losses, and you can't possibly deny the Broncos D is worse than Da Bears. Not one of those losses are justifiable. A Tom-Bradyless Patriots, the F@&*!NG Raiders, Carolina game should have been closer, the Chiefs...really?, and that is way to high of a score for the Chargers to accumulate even with a slightly injured LT.
So if anything, Cutler is actually trading up in defense. Plus, now that Lovie is personally taking over as defensive coordinator (which is his specialty), we've only got to believe things are getting better. Plus, Lovie's bringing in Rod Marinelli, yes the same Marinelli who was just fired as the head coach for the 0-16 and Lions. However, most people will forget that he is the main architect behind the devastating defense that powered the Buccaneers from the late nineties into the early half of this decade. We've got two great defensive minds working on that line now, change should be inevitable.
Finally, when you think about it...did those draft picks really matter lol? The Bears have never really been that great when it comes to the draft. I mean for crying out loud, that's how we got freakin Grossman to begin with. We got lucky last year and found a gem in Forte, but we also burnt our first round pick on Chris Williams, a tackle from Vanderbilt (and former teammate of Cutler by the way), who was later found to be nursing an injury. So... in the long run, taking the more proven route is probably best for the Bears front office, seeing as how they're draft picks have been less than stellar over these past years.
Oh, and there was talk of the Vikings being serious contenders for Cutler. I don't want to sound dramatic, but let me just say this...Minnesota has a very solid team, with a good range of weapons. Adding Cutler to that mix, and they would easily...easily dominate the division.
Than again, this could all end up like the Miami/Jets deal last year. The Jets got Favre...and that was a flop. Pennington went to Miami, and became a bona fide star. Anything goes these days...

How long do we have him for?

How long do we have him for? I do believe his contract that we received from Denver runs until the 2011-2012 season, but we'll more than likely give him a renewal with our own terms by the time this season is out...regardless if he does good or not. We're more than likely going to be stuck with Cutler for awhile. Also, another funny note, we actually saved slightly MORE salary cap when we let go of Orton, was set to make a little over 1.8 million this year. Instead we're getting Cutler for a little less, 1.25-1.3 million, and don't have to pay him any of the promised bonus incentives he signed up for with Denver. So even fiscally, this trade just made sense to go with!

Wait... how and why was/is Orton getting paid more?

Contractual bonuses. Anytime a player is signed for x amount of playing years, in the final period of that contract they receive their projected salary as well as the bonuses promised for maintaining that contract with the team. Orton was in the final year of his contract with the Bears, and thus would have demanded more salary than it would for Jay. In the end, it works out well for everyone, mainly because Denver had to agree to pay the full price of Orton in the trade (including his bonus incentives with the Bears). Whereas we only have to deal with Cutler's regular price, and can contract new bonus incentives. Cutler's bonus incentives would kick in around that 2011-2012 season...in which we either extend or axe him...for TODD BOECKMAN!

Who? Is that the third stringer?

Who? Is that the third stringer? No man! That's the amazing O-State Quarterback that you witnessed dominate that USC game back at Walter's house when he threw like two picks in a row, and lost his job to the super freshman. You can't tell me that man does not have a Bears quarterback name. Lovie: Boeckman...is our quarterback Sounds great! [/sarcasm] On a non-sarcastic note. I wanted to throw more interesting statistics up here that I found, while trying to figure out if the Cutler move was the right thing. The following link will take you to Football Outsiders.com, who are pretty famous for their great statistical breakdown charts on a year-to-year basis. Take a look at the defensive statistics for last years efficiency ratings (note: regular season only, not playoffs): www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamoff2008The Bears were an overall rank 7! With us having the #5 ranked rush defense in the league. Now look at Denver...holy shiznack...second only to the Fantastic Lions at the bottom of the food chain. As a matter of fact, there is an article somewhere on that site where they claim that Denver fielded one of the worst defenses of the decade last year. Now if you want to see the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde look to Denver, check out their offensive statistics. They were ranked as the #5 most efficient offensive squad according to those statistics. Crazy? Crazy.

Kind of interesting, through many of my dreams that have been a cruel joke that showed me a beautiful reality only to learn it is not true, in one of my dream the bears were brought up. They won their last game 7-0. Apparently our D was back but our offense of power was not heavy hitting. We were unbeaten and it seems our offense was not the driving force but it always scored enough to get us the big W. Now like I said, most of my dreams are just being cruel to me lately so this is probably in the same category. But since Cutler was on the team and they were on a perfect record I thought I'd mention it. That and this place needs more traffic. Cheers.

SO...
Who saw last night's game of the Bears vs. Broncos?
I know it's just the preseason, and there is a lot of love around here for Kyle "Hand-the-ball-off" Orton, but Oh Mah Gawd is Jay Cutler the man! It feels so strange to see the Bears fielding a skill QB out there, and Matt Forte is just a STRAIGHT UP BEAST! I am so pumped for regular season! Any qualms that people may have had about Cutler and his lack of high-profile receivers will hopefully rest a little easier now...although there is still a long road to go.
Color me impressed with the Chicago Bears so far!
