Derek Lee is a beast..... and the Cubs always seem to get alot of pirate players...... As for Sosa, one of my most disliked players. Not only was he a subpar player but he was subpar in his attitude. He acted like he was a God cause he could hit them Home runs. I just always remembering him swinging and missing....alot.

The year he had 66 homers he led in strikeouts for the National League. All he could do was hit home runs.

You pose a good question Walter. I know for a FACT I would never hear the end of it from many friends and co workers if the Cubs won a World Series. So you know what? You're damn right I'm going to rub it in your face every legitimate chance I can get to talk about the 2005 White Sox and their championship. I did however find an intelligent Cubs fan, and this actually makes sense:
We shouldn't be arguing over which Chicago team is better, but which is more pathetic. The Sox have only won 2 Worlds Series in 100 years, and the Cubs 0. Both are very low numbers, but obviously 0 is lower, thus making the Cubs more pathetic. Plus, honestly right now the Cubs are better on paper than the Sox, so I really have no room tot alk when talking to Cubs fans.
I know the Sox aren't going to be good this year. But at the same time, the Sox had more wins than the Cubs did in the playoffs this past year. I don't see how any Cubs fan can have confidence in their team this year. They have not won a playoff game since Game 5 of the 2003 NLCS. Even if they were to win say, 115 games next year, would anyone REALLY be banking on them to win it all? This is the team that royally choked last year, and I don't trust them at all. For the Cubs, the season will not matter. They could get baseball's best record ever for a 162 game season. But if they can't succeed in the playoffs, they'll just prove they're the biggest failures in the world of baseball, and possibly, all of professional sports.

I've kept quiet for awhile. But now I feel the need to speak up. I understand how you guys hate the idiot Cubs' fans who exist only to cheer fruitlessly, hate on the Sox, and get drunk at the game. I know several Sox fans who share the sentiment. HOWEVER, I...along w/ other Cubs' fans...hate the idiot Sox fans (or flat-out Cub-haters) who exist merely to rip the Cubs and rub 2005 in our faces. Don't you think the very thing that irks you, irks us? And don't you know that as much as you hate the idea of never hearing the end of a Cubs World Series, we hate the fact that you all are still talking about yours? Maybe everyone should calm bloody well down.
Look, both our teams have problems. I think we all know that. The Cubs played well last year, but cannot win in the post season to save their lives. The Sox did not play the way a WS Championship team should play, but, hey, look who knows how to win a game in Oct. Apparently we're all getting a fresh start this season, so let's just see what happens.
Personally, I'm having a hard time w/ the Cubs right now. I'm extraordinarily disappointed that we got rid of Derosa. He's an amazing utility player. And, if you haven't noticed, we seriously need that (check out the DL every once in awhile!) I'll be cheering for him as an Indian b/c he is a good player who will be a valuable asset to any team for which he plays. And I'm still reeling from last season. This is what bugs me...the team that can play as well as they did during the regular season cannot win even one game in the post-season...w/ the same players, same manager, same game plan...how on earth do you fix that?? I'm so disheartened right now. I guess I just have to wait and see about this new season w/ new players and a new lineup.
(And for the record, I was never a Sosa fan.)

I do acknowledge that there are a few moronic Sox fans around. Especially having seen them at some of the games. But, on average there are many more cub fans who are this way than sox fans. And last year was a very successful season for the sox. Just about everyone had us pinned last in our division. However, we made it to the playoffs and had some more than exciting moments last season. Now we ARE NOT the same team from '05. We have a completely different lineup. So saying we didn't play the way a WS team should play is pretty out there. I'm glad I can have these intellegent conversations with smart cub fans. It gives me hope for your kind yet.

YES we do have those obnoxious fans but we can't even compete with the cubs. From a family thats entirely Cub fans ... I just couldnt put up with their bs any longer ... I have to walk out of the room every time they start sayin how they are somehow better than us... The only thing I give u guys credit for is not killing yourselves by now and actually still sticking with them and thinkin u might actually win a world series... I mean comeon on .. how many mangers have been tosed your way to help u get there and young players with actually talent... and I will clearly admit u guys had way more talent than we did last season.. which pisses me off more cause u didnt do shit with it! Yes u won the divison but again gave false hope to your fans! So again u cubs are left to say lets see how next season will turn out!!! OK ENOUGH WITH THAT!!! u had ur season or should I say SEASONS and u blew it... !!! The sox were not expected to do shit this past season .... they picked us to be in last and we ended up winning the division ( a division that is one of the hardest in baseball i might add) SO if u r ok with being a Cubs fan and just living with the saying that "there is always next year" then so be it!

Oh, I don't know about that. I think it depends on either where you live or your circle of friends/family. I've usually seen more obnoxious Sox fans than Cubs fans. But I bet each club says that about the other. I don't necessarily feel like it's out there to say that the Sox didn't play like a WS team. I understand that they're not the same players. I just feel that if you keep describing a team as a championship team then the team should play as such as often as possible. It's like setting a bar for yourself. I know not every season can be a championship season for every team who has ever won a championship. And I know that every team, no matter how good, can fall into a slump. I'm just explaining what I meant by that. I can't tell you the number of times I heard something like that from my aunt about some not-so-great Bulls' games. And yes, you guys did pull off something pretty great. So definitely congrats on making it to the playoffs! I would say that made for very exciting memories. Especially when, like you, you're able to attend some of the games. I definitely enjoy the conversation. Occasionally I join in on the Sox bashing just b/c some crazed fan is making me. But I much prefer talking to people who know the game and the players and can be open-minded and objective.

I've had your experience, but in reverse. Yes, we had an amazing opportunity last year that ended up completely wasted. I believe you'll find the majority of us agree w/ that assessment. I said, "I guess I just have to wait and see about this new season w/ new players and a new lineup." Never did I say, "There is always next year." I believe, once again, that you'll find an awful lot of Cubs fans who refuse to say that. I'm not content being a Cubs fan and just living w/ that saying. I loved my team. And they had me going. And I wanted them to do something w/ that talent so badly. But they couldn't seal the deal. And now I feel there are some huge mistakes they're making. I used the word disheartened. I'm not foolishly wasting my energy (though some of you might consider it that just b/c of the team I choose to back). I'm not blindly repeating some catch phrase who's impact has long since be nullified.I'm just waiting til the season starts. I'm watching, studying, appraising the players. How can I decide how I feel about the new team and new game plan if I don't wait to see it in action?

How can I decide how I feel about the new team and new game plan if I don't wait to see it in action? i'm going to go against the grain here. maybe i don't know. but i am one of those cub fans that does say 'there is always next year' and to an extent i think that almost defines what a cub fan values. again i'll state this is all personal opinion and i respectfully acknowledge others' thoughts, everyone has their right to *believe* for different reasons. there are different kinds of fans everywhere and being in a big 10 town, you can't help but run into the hat of nearly every mlb team there is. i find that being a cubs fan tells me more about that person than just the team they root for during baseball season. it tells me that that person is someone who can love under the worst conditions or who doesn't need rewards or accolades (sp?) for an accomplishment or who appreciates history or who would just be content with watching a whole baseball game on the most uncomfortable bleachers ever..or has hope for the future all because of the phrase 'there is always next year' i've said it. i'll continue to say it. yea, i was hurt this year, worse than i've ever been hurt before. i couldn't even watch the bears this season because i couldn't stand another heartbreak...but i am back for this season and i will keep coming back because i am not a person who watches baseball only if my team is winning or only if my team is going to the world series. i watch it for the average games, for the crazy 16 inning games, or the no-hitters where neither team is at their home field , i watch it for the journey and where they take us from april until october taking us through hell and heartbreak and eventually hell again...if at the end of that journey we don't win, there is always another journey come spring. that's why i watch it for the ride so to speak. and i think that is what every committed baseball fan does. i acknowledge the faults of the team, but the adventures they take us on are so worth it that i have a permanent optimism that cannot be wavered.
