sorry it has taken me so long! madison has got me so busy these days. anyway. i appreciate your response and i will divulge without so much eloquency [like there.. i don't think is spelled it right and i'm so not going to look it up] [[now i've only taken one film class. so i don't know at all about the technical aspects we focused mainly on mise-en-scene and plot stuff]] but anyway haha okay. i guess what sparked the question i posed was actually a discussion about the Pardoner's Tale....if you haven't read it i highly suggest doing so. but that's besides the point i suppose.
if you wanted to know how i would answer: i don't even remember what my question was haha something about morality making a film good or something? i guess i would respond that 'good' is left up to the viewer themselves. i do not think there can be the universal 'good' movie...unless like harry said it strikes a common emotion. i think that if a person cares or is interested at all in movies definitely does a great deal of analyzing and watches tons and tons of movies...and therefore has more to compare to.
having said that: i guess it just comes from me always wanting to be different and liking some things simply because they are different and not thinking there is anything wrong with that but i like movies that do something that other's don't. for example: marie antoinette...i liked it. i think it was a good movie. it focused almost entirely on setting and costume and mixing it with modern rock music was something that i appreciated. also as an english major, i take an extreme interest in plot and mcguffin and other subtle elements...most of the time i watch movies and imagine them as books or novels as opposed to the opposite. i like it when movies are over simplified as well.
i'm too tired to think of any examples. i've got people to meet and a party to crash! i'll get on this after spring break most likely so yea
